Blog 3: The Frogorgon

I would like to preface this with the fact that I did not post last week. I am not consistent or thorough with these posts. 1-:] I am not planning on making this blog very professional or a big deal. I mostly just work on it when it fits with my schedule.

The Frogorgon (plural) are large, bizzarre amphibians with monstrous characteristics. Unlike the vast majority of monsters, they live in places abundant with life. In addition, Frogorgons are not strictly nocturnal like many other horrors; instead, they sleep whenever it gets dark and cold and wake when conditions are good. They mainly subsist on small fish, but will slurp up other amphibians given a fraction of a chance- bulbous toads are prime dining. These beasts have a near human level of understanding and intelligence, as well as superhuman cunning. Pond and lake fishers may go missing without a trace after a mysterious something tugs a bit too hard on the line. The unfortunate victim is soon to discover that they didn’t get a bite- the bite got them.

(Insert something dramatic here to cover up the corniness of the precious sentence.)

As frogorgons are generally active creatures, higher energy than many amphibians, they cannot afford to brood over egg clusters. Instead, they grow their spawn sticking out of their own body. The large tadpoles go under a symbiotic relationship with the adult. When the strong young need energy, it is provided at the adult’s expense, but when partially mature, they gain the ability to hunt and kill school fish to feed the host.

This creature is just so stupid. I love the cartoon frog model and tadpole designed merged with one of the most complex and bizarre human monsters. I shrouded it in darkness to simulate a dark night or murky water, but left it with bright, glowing eyes. The human arm position feels so fitting for the idea. The screeching tadpole is meant to represent the unguarded horror of this creature without any of the carefully maintained charm of the adult. What a fun little cryptid!

Draw on,
