My friend and I decided to each draw something cool and show it to each other. He made a Pokémon drawing (i don’t remember which pokemon it was,) and I made this. It is an underground shark. As being hydrodynamic (streamlined so water flows past easily, like a boat) is no longer a problem, its body is more lumpy. It’s sensitive nose is made for smelling out small tidbits in the soil for nomming on. The nose also shoves dirt down towards the fins to be compacted. The overlapping scales on this shark are very large for the shark’s size. They keep the shark anchored as it digs into the soil. Its front (pectoral) fin has been specialized for shoving dirt down and into the tunnel floor. The caudal fin ungulates back and forth as it does with regular sharks, moving the shark steadily along. The back (dorsal) fin and other fins have disappeared, as they would dig into the dirt and slow the shark down. The shark has developed lungs to breathe air. It needs less oxygen and food than many other sharks because it is small- only seven inches long, slightly smaller than an adult hand. It is eaten by mammals that hunt other burrowing animals.

As I am writing, I realize that this shark could work much better as an ocean shark that burrows into the sea floor, with fewer land based adaptations. I would love to see one of you readers make such a creature in the comments. Think about how it might eat, or breathe, or defend itself. Happy creating!
Draw on,
