Blog 16: Arbok Update!

If you liked Blog 14, “Psychic Arbok,” then this one’s for you. This is a detailed, colourful version of the previous drawing. I decided to color the drawing because I wanted to highlight that single stone on Arbok’s head. The color scheme for the body was much trickier. I originally thought I could use a shade of purple that was slightly different than Arboks, but I remembered that many snakes in sandy areas are light yellows and whites to blend in with the sand. I chose black highlights because I was listening to a book at the time where a supervillain was going to make an appearance in black in yellow costume with black and yellow robots in a black in yellow truck… he had a theme going.

I also made a few adjustment to his body shape. His tail is now segmented in a way more similar to the original Arbok. There are new red patterns in the spirals on his… cobra.. flap… thingies. I changed the design of his forehead and neck, which I think makes it look more threatening.

I really love the way this turned out. It looks sort of imposing for a little two stage Pokémon, but it is simple enough to be believable.

Draw on,

The Drawing Post.
